This is a documentary project that started in 2025. I had the idea of talking to people on their front porches / steps / balconies around the city and filming the perspective from where they live.
In 2025 I recorded short interviews with over 100 people. I'm continuing to meet people and record their views in 2026.
People see a flyer or card for this project, then reach out and let me know when a good time is to record their view. It’s just myself and my camera, travelling around the city to meet people.
My name is Perry. I’m a freelance videographer and editor who has worked in documentary for 15 years. I’ve produced and directed two short documentaries and assisted on many others.
I'm interested in what sort of things you observe from wherever you look out. What interactions do you have with your immediate surroundings in the city? I’m also interested in hearing about whatever issues are occupying people’s time and attention.
No. Participants are not identified by name, and no exact locations are revealed. I am generally not asking people about their specific personal background or biography etc.
Short sections from these conversations and images will be edited into one film, with the intention of creating a type of time capsule for Toronto in 2025/26 and what its residents were dealing with.
No problem! It could be front steps, a balcony, a walkway - any place outside where you look out from.
The average interaction has been about 20 minutes.
Last summer a CBC Radio producer saw one of the flyers and I was interviewed about the project. You can hear that interview to learn more about me and the project: Radio Interview
